Plexo is Building Infrastructure for Global Stablecoin Payments

Stablecoins are rapidly becoming part of international trade. However, the financial sector still lacks the infrastructure needed to connect financial institutions that work with these pegged cryptocurrencies. The Prague-based startup Plexo, which has recently received backing from the investment fund DEPO Ventures, is building this missing layer. The global significance of this technology is also evidenced by the interest of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), which has invited Plexo to consult on the development of regulations for corporate stablecoin payments.

Plexo is Building Infrastructure for Global Stablecoin Payments

Unlike traditional cryptocurrencies, which are known for their sharp price fluctuations, the value of stablecoins is firmly pegged to fiat currency, most often the U.S. dollar. Companies are increasingly using them to send money abroad because they are significantly faster and cheaper than traditional bank transfers. However, the current market is extremely fragmented, and every financial institution, whether exchanges, OTC traders, payment providers, or banks, uses different technologies and systems. When they want to send money to one another, they run into a technological and regulatory barrier. Today, every new business connection requires separate technical integration, an individual contract, and its own compliance process. That means connecting a single trade route can easily take months, and institutions still exchange documents via email or other communication tools.

Stablecoins are no longer just the domain of cryptocurrency enthusiasts; they are becoming an effective alternative for traditional businesses, saving them time and money on cross-border payments. However, financial institutions have faced the challenge of lacking a secure infrastructure that is fully compliant with regulations and would enable real-world deployment. Plexo provides this crucial technological bridge, and we see enormous potential in it for modernizing the global financial market. Anton and Roman have been joined on this mission by experts who have built fintech leaders such as N26, KuCoin, and Chainalysis, which underscores not only the importance and strong momentum of the project but also the founders’ ability to surround themselves with the best in the industry,” explains Michal Ciffra, a partner at DEPO Ventures.

Repeating History with a New Technological Solution

Just as the SWIFT system once connected traditional banks, Plexo addresses the current fragmentation of the market by building a unified and independent clearing network. Today, each pair of institutions establishes its own connection: they manually search for a counterparty, negotiate an individual contract, program the integration with the counterparty’s systems, and set up their own compliance process. Establishing a single such connection takes three to six months. By connecting to the Plexo network just once, an institution gains access to all other members: the platform helps it find a verified counterparty, ensures mutual verification, and provides the necessary compliance documentation in accordance with applicable laws. The startup itself never touches the funds being transferred and settlement takes place directly between the institutions.

Stablecoins can already settle payments, but licensed financial institutions still have no standardized way to discover one another, verify counterparties, or exchange compliance information. What SWIFT solved for banks fifty years ago simply doesn’t exist for the stablecoin ecosystem. Plexo is building exactly that neutral clearing layer.” says Anton Titov, Founder and CEO of Plexo

Titov himself has 13 years of experience in fintech and international payments; in the past, he successfully built the Archway Finance platform, which held dual European licenses, secured nearly 38 million crowns in investment, and operated in more than 30 regions. Behind the Plexo platform’s technological solution is co-founder and CTO Roman Shprenger, who previously built the software startup TADS.me from the ground up, achieving an annual revenue of over one million dollars and an infrastructure capable of processing tens of millions of transactions daily.

Building a global network for financial institutions means solving two fundamental technical challenges: ensuring maximum data security while processing enormous transaction volumes in real time. Our platform automates compliance verification and document exchange so institutions can begin working together immediately, without the manual processes that currently slow everything down.” says Roman Shprenger, Co-founder and CTO of Plexo

When Regulation and Innovation Move Together

New regulations governing digital assets, such as the strict MiCA legislation in the European Union, provide a clear legal framework for the international transfer of stablecoins and make them a credible tool for major financial players.

The Plexo team is now helping to extend these global standards beyond Europe. In May 2026, it accepted an invitation from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) to participate in an expert workshop. The workshop focused on developing a regulatory framework for corporate stablecoin payments in Kenya, now a dynamically developing and technologically progressive African fintech hub. In addition, the startup works closely with advisors from the highest echelons of the global financial world. Among them are executives with experience at the digital bank N26 and the cryptocurrency platforms Kraken.

DEPO Ventures supports early-stage startups from the CEE region with a focus on strategic technologies. Since 2019, DEPO has made over 50 investments. Notable projects include the global blockchain platform Tatum; Kardi AI, an innovative solution for at-home heart monitoring; Flowpay, smart business financing; the mobile guide SmartGuide; and the breakthrough logistics platform Ringil. The investment group also leads the international DEPO Angels syndicate, connecting investors with high-quality startups and streamlining the investment process.and KuCoin, as well as the current director of regulatory policy at Chainalysis, who previously worked at the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Capital to Build a Global Financial Network

DEPO Ventures is Plexo’s first institutional investor and serves as the cornerstone investor in the company’s pre-seed funding round. Blockchain technology expert Arne Brutschy also joined the round. The newly raised capital will primarily be invested in accelerating product development, expanding the platform’s automated infrastructure, and onboarding more than 100 financial institutions already in active discussions with the company.

The investment from DEPO Ventures allows us to accelerate development and respond immediately to growing market demand. Our immediate priorities are completing process automation, opening new payment corridors, and strengthening our presence in markets where digital asset regulation is evolving most rapidly. Obtaining licenses in Austria and Kenya will mark another important milestone, enabling us to connect Europe’s financial ecosystem with East Africa’s rapidly expanding digital economy.” concludes Anton Titov, Founder and CEO of Plexo
